Happening at the Arts Hub – 103-325 Second Street South, Kenora

Tea at the HubMondays, 10am-12pm – Visit and enjoy a beverage and conversation. No sign-up required, donations are appreciated.

Let’s Play – Paint – Tuesdays in May and June, 1pm-2:30pm – Play with paint and ink at this workshop series. We will work with watercolour paint on paper and watercolour ink on yupo before defining our art using ink pens. No experience is necessary. Registration is $30 for seven weeks. Space is limited, call ahead for more information or to sign up at 807-407-5660.

Open Studio – Wednesdays, 10am-12pm – The doors are open! Come on in and chat about what’s up at the Arts Hub and in the local community arts scene. RSVP to 807-407-7449 if you’d like to work on any special or specific projects during your visit and we can prepare a space for you ahead of time.

Laughter Yoga – Wednesdays (Except June 21, National Indigenous People’s Day), 12pm-1pm – Laughter yoga is an exercise program developed by Indian physician Dr. Madan Kataria in Mumbai, who things laughter is the very best medicine! It combines laughter with yoga and breathing techniques, called Pranayama, which brings more oxygen into our body and brain making us feel more energetic and healthier. Sketch-a-doodle – Architecture – Wednesdays beginning June 27 for eight weeks, 3:30pm-4:30pm – Interested in doodling Kenora building scapes? Join Tersoo as he leads participants “en plein aire” doodling architecture around Kenora in the style of artist Albert Kiefer. We will be working with pen and ink and watercolour in our drawings. Some days the group will walk the streets of Kenroa weather permitting and other days we will work from photos at the Hub. Please call for more information or to sign up at 807-407-5660. The fee for this 8-week workshop is $20.

Yoga – Thursdays, June 1, 15 & 29, 4pm-5pm – YTT 200, Laura welcomes you to this practice that combines movement, relaxation and open curiosity to the experience of the body. Though donations to the Hub are appreciate, please call or text Laura at 807-407-7449 if you have questions or to RSVP.

Core Gift Cafe – Fridays (except June 23), 11am-1pm – This event is open to all whether you are already familiar with the Core Gift process or if you’re new and curious to learn more. A trained facilitator will be happy to chat at the cafe to help you find out more about your own Core Gift discovery process and to talk about how to help others discover theirs. Visit the Core Gift Institute to learn more about walking your purposeful path. RSVPs are appreciated, but drop-ins are also welcome!

Sacred Circle Dance – Sunday, June 25, 2pm-3pm followed by tea – Please call or text 807-407-7449 to RSVP to Laura. This event will only go ahead if there are enough sign ups in advance! Learn beautiful folk dances from around the world with expert facilitator, Esme. Suggested donation of $5-10.

Ye Olde Medieval Arts Workshop – Thursdays until June 22, 12:30pm-2:30pm – We’re preparing for the KACL picnic Renaissance-style. Make a fantastic beast hobby horse, create medieval-themed decor, delve into making costume pieces, and more! Participants are welcome to join this workshop any Thursday. Drop-ins are encouraged and welcome!

Tour the World – Ukraine – Date coming in July  – Due to reasons beyond our control, we had to reschedule the “trip” to explore the Ukraine. We are now welcoming you to join us as we explore this rich culture with food, festivities, and a special talk from new-to-Kenora, Ukrainian-born visitors. Space is limited. The fee for the event is $25. Reservations will be on a first come, first served basis. Call for more information 807-407-5660.

Events Happening in the Community

Rise to the Rhythm – Thursdays, June 8 and 22, 4pm-5pm @ Anicinabe Park – Explore West African hand drumming with Tersoo at the shelter at Anicinabe Park. This non-traditional drum circle is open to all abilities and hand drums are provided.

Renaissance Themed KACL Community Picnic June 23, 11am-2pm @ Anicinabe Park – Celebrate this annual event in Renaissance style! You are invite to dress the part as costumes are strongly encouraged. Please contact us or join in our Medieval Workshops leading up to the event for fun ideas. There will be games, entertainment and god old-fashioned BBQ. This year marks the very first themed picnic
