Members: Does the National Government have a Role to Play in ensuring the Rights of the Disabled?

Past President Anita Rassmussen, Dave Lillico and Executive Director James Retson meet with former MP Roger Valley, Anita Neville, Federal Liberal Party Critic for Women Affairs and Northern Development, and Anthony Rota, Chair of the National Liberal Causus on August 10, 2009 to discuss concerns of the Association for persons with Disabilities at the National Level. The Association ask that the Liberal party maintain its support for making the Federal Disability Tax Credit , refundable, that if elected that Canada ratify the International Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and that party adopt positions to reduce the levels of poverty among persons with disabilies. Anita Neville suggested that the House Leaders be requested to reinstate the Committee of the disabled, a sub committee of the Health Committee, to give a national focus for the reforms required.
