Background

The first computer for the Association was purchased in Approximately 1985-6 for the purposes of assisting the Executive Director in preparing budgets and for tracking expenses of the Association,a service previously provide by the accounting firm of Dunwoody and Co. At the time the Association employed 6 full time secretaries and a Business Manager and employed approximate 50 staff. Subsequently computers were purchased for each of the programs and still subsequently for most staff at the consultant level and above.Today it employs approximate 125 employees with a receptionist, 3 confidential secretaries and a Director of Finance and Administration. Computers are now extensively used in consumer training programs and in designing augmentative communication systems.
